Who is a Eyelid Surgery Candidate?
Individuals who have excess, hanging skin covering the natural fold of the upper lids, loose skin hanging from the upper lids, puffiness in the lower and upper lids that make them appear aged, or deep grooves under the eyes can often benefit from eyelid surgery. Scheduling a consultation with Dr. Cusimano will give you the opportunity to speak about your medical history and aesthetic goals, helping to determine if you are a good candidate.
The Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. During the procedure, markings will be made to indicate where excess tissues will be removed. In the upper eyelids, an incision is made hidden within the natural folds of the eyelid. In the lower eyelid, an incision is hidden just below the lower lashes. Excess tissue will then be removed through these incisions, and fat may be redistributed to eliminate puffiness. Sutures or tissue adhesives will be used to smooth the areas around the eyelids.

What to Expect Eyelid Surgery
Following eyelid surgery, you may experience some tearing, light sensitivity, or double vision. Incisions will be red and visible at first, and the eyelids may be puffy and numb for several days. Swelling and bruising will last for about a week, and discomfort can be controlled with pain medication. It is recommended that you sleep with your head raised higher than your chest to help reduce swelling. Also, avoid straining and heaving lifting for 10-14 days. Most patients feel well enough to resume their normal activities about 10 days after surgery. Overall, be sure to follow Dr. Cusimano’s post-op instructions to help ensure a smooth and safe recovery.
