MEET DR. CUSIMANO

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon

Dr. Luke Cusimano, FACS, a plastic, and reconstructive surgeon is highly skilled in plastic surgery procedures of the breast, body, and face, as well as in breast reconstruction. He completed his undergraduate education at Louisiana State University and earned his M.D. at the American University of the Caribbean. He then went on to complete a general surgery internship at State University at Buffalo. Dr. Cusimano acted as chief resident at the University of Mississippi where he gained his general surgery training, and Tulane University, where he underwent his plastic surgery training.

He is board-certified in plastic surgery, certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, and is a member of a number of professional affiliations, including the American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, and the American Society of Plastic Surgery.

Above all, Dr. Cusimano is dedicated to providing compassionate, personalized treatment for each and every patient. He takes great pride in achieving beautiful, natural-looking results, and strives to ensure that each patient receives the optimal level of care.

Dr. Cusimano is recently married and has three boys, two of whom attend St. Aloysius in Baton Rouge, LA. His interests include new innovations in cosmetic surgery, nutrition, and physical fitness. In his free time, he likes to play sports and is an avid outdoorsman. In the summer, he is usually deep-sea fishing on the weekend, and in the winter, you can find him enjoying college football or hunting.

Specializing in Breast Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction is an extremely rewarding experience for a board-certified plastic surgeon. Patients come into our office at a very difficult time in their lives, and most of the discussions thus far are usually talking about treating cancer. Whether it be with chemotherapy, radiation, or surgical excision, all of these options have unpleasant to disfiguring consequences.

Dr. Cusimano’s specialty allows him to have the opposite kind of discussion with the patient. He gets to discuss how he and the patient can counteract or correct some of the consequences of breast cancer treatment. He feels like reconstructive discussions that he has with his patients are the start of them getting through the process of treatment for their cancer and provides them with a glimpse of “I am going to get through this and things will be okay on the other side.”

EDUCATION & ACCREDITATIONS

Dr. Cusimano’s training was done at Tulane University in New Orleans which provided him with a unique opportunity to learn the most advanced techniques in breast reconstruction, as that is where autologous tissue reconstruction for the breast was popularized. He not only had a vast experience in autologous reconstruction but also had vast exposure to the newer techniques for implant-based reconstruction including pre-pectoral and direct-to-implant reconstructions. Dr. Cusimano feels extremely lucky to bring this knowledge and skill back to where he grew up and be able to give breast cancer patients other options for breast reconstruction.
